Greenvale is a small, one form entry primary school on the outskirts of Croydon, where our close knit community and high expectations help every child thrive. In 2022, after recognising a decline in enthusiasm for writing and wanting to improve outcomes, we introduced Talk for Writing across the school.
Following a whole school INSET in September, staff worked together to plan their first fiction units, using Talk for Writing resources to build confidence in the approach. A year later we introduced non-fiction, and Talk for Writing is now the foundation of English teaching at Greenvale, providing a consistent and engaging approach to developing speaking, reading and writing.
We work closely with our Talk for Writing consultant to continually refine our practice, ensuring every child benefits from high quality, consistent teaching.
Visitors to Greenvale see a school where every member of staff is committed to Talk for Writing. Staff continually develop their practice, respond to the needs of every child, and help pupils build on their strengths through carefully planned teaching. This shared commitment creates a consistent, language rich environment where children become confident communicators and writers.
