St Matthew’s is a thriving one-form entry primary school near Birmingham, celebrating diversity with 90% of pupils from minority ethnic groups and 16 different home languages. The school emphasizes the importance of communication throughout the curriculum.
In February 2015, Ofsted recognized the school as one of the top 100 most improved schools, highlighting exceptional writing instruction through tailored support for students.
We take pride in our cohesive professional development program, adapting the Talk for Writing approach to a Talk for Maths process. This ‘Talk for’ ethos is implemented school-wide, with dedicated staff committed to helping students excel in writing, reading, and mathematics.
Organised school visits will allow observation of lessons, training from leader Sonia Thompson, and review of books. Attendees can also engage with and reflect on the lessons learned in our bespoke learning hub.
On an open morning you’ll see:
• An overview of the Talk for Writing process and its impact on raising standards
• Practical activities to support the implementation of Talk for Writing
• Opportunities to compare practice with colleagues from other schools and share ideas and techniques
